CrossFit Open 26.2 in Portugal
Ring muscle-ups in the Open!
I've been staying in Atouguia da Baleia for about 20 days and completed 26.2 and 26.3 at CrossFit Lusíadas.
Watching the Open workout announcement live is usually impossible in Korea since it's early morning, but being in Europe meant I could watch it during evening hours. Watching David Castro get all excited by himself while announcing each workout made him look even more annoying.

He revealed the 26.2 movements one by one—pull-ups, chest-to-bar, muscle-ups—building anticipation. Then he said he hadn't specified which type of muscle-up and showed two rings overlapping. Turns out ring muscle-ups appeared in early Open workouts like 12.4, 14.4, and 15.3, but recently it's been mostly bar muscle-ups, so nobody expected this.

I practiced ring muscle-ups last year. High reps are tough, but I can get one when exhausted. So I figured if I paced myself to reach the muscle-ups, I'd have a shot. My strategy from the start: break everything up even if I could go unbroken (switch hands every 8m on lunges, pull-ups in sets of 10, C2B in sets of 5).

The pacing strategy worked. I started struggling on the second set of dumbbell snatches. C2B didn't go as planned—broke them into singles. The last set of snatches took three breaks to finish 20 reps. Still, I hit the muscle-ups at 12:34, leaving time to catch my breath and attempt them multiple times. Got 1 out of 3 attempts! Last year's practice paid off. Super satisfied with this result.


Looking at the 40-44 division, the median is 112 reps (failing the muscle-up). That one muscle-up makes a huge difference in rankings. Makes up for my weak 26.1 performance.
